A Polk City woman was arrested last month after a domestic dispute spiraled into a chaotic, fully nude altercation that allegedly involved violence toward both her husband and responding officers, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Laylani Sullivan, 24, faces multiple charges, including domestic violence battery by strangulation, battery on a firefighter, resisting an officer with violence, and resisting an officer without violence, according to official records.
Deputies were dispatched on the morning of October 15 to a home on Cypress Trails Drive after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, Sullivan’s husband told deputies that his wife—who he described as “very intoxicated”—began screaming and cursing at him before the situation escalated. He alleged that Sullivan choked him to the point where he could not breathe, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd later discussed the incident in a video statement, saying, “Oh brother, she got rip-roaring drunk. Took off every bit of her clothes. When we found her, she was in the front yard after biting and slapping her husband who had called 911. We tried to arrest her, and she didn’t like that at all.”
The affidavit states that Sullivan became “angry and aggressive” when deputies attempted to take her into custody. Despite repeated commands, she resisted arrest, pulling away and swinging her arms. Polk County Fire and Rescue personnel arrived at the scene to assist, as Sullivan was reportedly lying unclothed in a ditch. When a female deputy and firefighter tried to help her get dressed, Sullivan allegedly struck the firefighter in the chest.
Sheriff Judd ended his comments with a pointed reminder about alcohol abuse, remarking, “How much do you have to drink to rip off all your clothes, slap your husband, bite him, and then lay down in the yard? I can’t answer that—but Laylani can.”
Sullivan is currently being held in the Polk County Jail on $16,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on November 18.
