A Nashville woman’s quick stop for an oil change turned into a frustrating ordeal that left her without her car — and her story has since gone viral.
TikTok creator Morgan (@fairy.godmorgan) shared in a series of videos that she was “bawling her eyes out” after a routine visit to a local Valvoline spiraled into a multi-day headache. What should have been a simple service before a long drive to a wedding ended with her Lexus overheating and stranded just blocks from the shop.
What Went Wrong at the Valvoline Shop
Morgan explained that she went to the same Valvoline she had always used since moving to Nashville. During her visit, an employee recommended a coolant flush in addition to the oil change — something she agreed to.
Almost immediately, she says it became clear that the technician didn’t seem confident about the process. At one point, she saw him shrug, appear confused, and then assure her everything was fine. Moments after driving away, however, her dashboard lit up with warnings, alarms blared, and her car began overheating.
Morgan quickly turned around and returned to the shop, where she says smoke poured from under the hood. The same worker who had performed the service tried to make a few quick fixes, but the issue persisted. She waited over 90 minutes without an explanation as the staff talked among themselves. The situation grew worse when, according to her, the employee responsible clocked out and left for the day while she was still waiting.
After three hours, Morgan confronted the manager, who told her Valvoline would be “launching an investigation.” The company initially claimed there was “no way” their service caused the problem, even suggesting she was blaming them for a preexisting issue.
What the Mechanics Found
Valvoline later sent Morgan’s car to a local repair shop for inspection. She says those mechanics quickly identified the problem — too much air trapped in the coolant system, something that should have been prevented if the flush had been done correctly.
“It’ll take me 20 minutes to fix it,” the mechanic reportedly told her, noting that Valvoline didn’t have the proper tools to handle the procedure correctly.
Even with this diagnosis, Valvoline initially refused to take responsibility or cover her rental car costs. After more than a week of back-and-forth, Morgan says the company finally admitted fault.
Why Coolant Flush Errors Can Be So Costly
Improper coolant flushes can lead to major damage if air gets trapped in the system. This prevents coolant from circulating, causing the engine to overheat. Using the wrong coolant type or failing to fully drain old fluid can also cause corrosion, clogs, or even head gasket failure.
Experts recommend that if a coolant service goes wrong, drivers should have the vehicle inspected immediately by a trusted mechanic — and document every step in case the shop denies responsibility.
TikTok Viewers Rally Behind Morgan
Morgan’s two-part TikTok series has drawn over 93,000 views, with viewers voicing outrage at Valvoline’s handling of the situation.
“They have it on camera, too. I’d be filing a police report,” one commenter wrote.
Another added, “File a faulty work claim on their insurance.”
Others were even more direct: “They screwed up, and you need a lawyer because they’ll do everything possible not to pay you.”
Many also praised Morgan’s patience after waiting three hours for answers. “Keeping your cool for 3.5 hours deserves an award,” one user commented.
Several viewers vowed never to visit Valvoline again. “Watch me never go to Valvoline again,” one wrote. Another added, “My fiancé is a mechanic — never go to Valvoline for anything other than oil changes.”
What Happens Next
In a statement to Motor1, Morgan said Valvoline has taken responsibility but that a resolution is still pending.
“They have taken responsibility for what happened to my car,” she said. “However, we haven’t figured out the resolution yet. I will no longer be going to Valvoline for any service and plan on going to my Lexus dealer or a trusted local shop.”
