A 13-year-old Texas girl fought off a masked man who tried to kidnap her while she was walking to school, police say. The quick-thinking teen managed to escape after biting her attacker twice.
The Galveston Police Department reported that the girl was heading to Central Middle School before 7 a.m. Monday when she “heard footsteps approaching from behind.” The man grabbed her, sparking a struggle, but the girl bit him twice and ran straight to the school. She immediately alerted her teachers, who called the police.
The girl was unharmed. Officers issued an alert to local hospitals in case the suspect sought medical treatment. Her parents joined police in retracing her route from their apartment to the school.
Investigators reviewed security footage from a nearby business on 24th Street, which showed the girl walking with a man wearing a black short-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and what appeared to be a ski mask. The police released a video of the suspect on Monday.
As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests had been made.
