Police in Scottsdale, Arizona, are investigating a strange early-morning break-in that turned from passion to theft at a popular Old Town restaurant.
According to authorities, security cameras captured a man and woman entering Mon Cheri—a rose-themed eatery known for its pink décor and romantic atmosphere—around 3:50 a.m. Saturday. The pair reportedly engaged in sexual activity among the floral decorations near the outdoor patio before forcing their way inside.
Restaurant owner Lexi Caliskan told ABC15 Arizona the scene was both shocking and surreal. “They got caught in the moment—there’s roses everywhere, maybe it was kind of romantic—but it turned into a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde situation,” she said.
When staff arrived later that morning, they found evidence of the break-in and the couple’s earlier rendezvous. “The whole stand was totally torn apart—there were things everywhere,” Caliskan recalled.
The suspects made off with approximately $450 in cash, an iPhone 5 used as the hostess phone, and a bottle of Bacardi rum, Caliskan told FOX 10. Police said the duo initially wore masks but removed them during the incident, providing investigators with clear footage of their faces. They have not yet been identified.
Two doors were damaged during the burglary. Despite the intrusion, the restaurant reopened the same day.
Mon Cheri, located near First Avenue and Goldwater Boulevard, is a popular destination for date nights and bachelorette parties. Known for its lavish floral displays and signature pink pasta, it’s one of Scottsdale’s most photographed venues.
Lead server Caitlyn Sorensen said the incident felt deeply disrespectful. “It’s such a happy and positive place, so for them to do that here is just disturbing,” she said. “Yes, we’re full of romance and happiness—but that’s not what we’re about.”
Caliskan said she’s grateful the damage wasn’t worse and is keeping her sense of humor as police continue their investigation into the amorous thieves.
