‘Her bad decision landed her in jail’: Florida woman charged with credit card theft after identifying herself in social media post, sheriff says

A Florida woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly admitting to stealing a customer’s credit card through a social media post, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

Brynn Gifford, 19, is accused of fraudulent use of personal identification of someone over 60, multiple counts of credit card fraud, and petit theft.

The investigation began on Aug. 9 following a report that a customer’s credit card went missing after a visit to Palm Nails, a salon in Palm Coast, roughly 60 miles southeast of Jacksonville. The victim noticed $500 in unauthorized purchases across ten transactions between Aug. 6 and Aug. 9.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the stores where the card was used and identified a suspect described as a white woman with long dark hair wearing a white camouflage jacket.

On Sept. 23, the sheriff’s office posted a photo online seeking to identify the suspect. Later that day, Gifford contacted authorities, admitting she was the woman in the photo.

Initially denying any wrongdoing, Gifford eventually acknowledged the surveillance images showing her using the stolen card at Walmart, buying items including notebooks and pens. She even showed detectives similar items in her backpack. Investigators also discovered Gifford had worked as a receptionist at the nail salon at the time of the alleged theft.

A warrant was issued for her arrest on Oct. 15, and she was taken into custody the following day at the Volusia County Correctional Facility in Daytona Beach. She was later released on a $4,000 bond.

“This case is a great example of the power of social media and how it can help law enforcement,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Less than a day after we posted the suspect’s photo, she came forward. Her bad decision landed her in jail on multiple felony charges, but ultimately she did the right thing, because our detectives would have caught her sooner or later.”
