Illinois State Representative Margaret Croke is facing heavy backlash after sending an email that listed detailed descriptions of vehicles allegedly belonging to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents operating in Chicago.
The message, titled “Updated List of ICE Vehicles Seen Today,” reportedly included the make, model, color, and partial license plate numbers of vehicles thought to be tied to ICE operations in local neighborhoods.
Croke urged recipients to remain vigilant and report any “suspicious activity,” describing ICE enforcement actions as “unlawful and undemocratic.” She also provided contact information for legal and social services aimed at helping illegal immigrants.
Conservatives condemned the email as a dangerous act of doxxing. The popular X account Libs of TikTok accused Croke of “putting a target on agents’ backs” and aiding illegal immigrants in evading arrest. “This is absolutely disgraceful. CHARGE HER,” the post read, tagging both the Department of Homeland Security and ICE. Within hours, the post had gained nearly 9,000 likes.
The email further encouraged community members to document and share sightings of suspected ICE vehicles to “protect someone from being picked up off the street or unnecessarily and forcibly handled.”
This controversy follows a similar initiative backed by former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who recently launched a nonprofit called “The ICE Accountability Project.” The organization claims to promote “transparency” in federal immigration enforcement but has been accused by critics of trying to expose and endanger federal agents.
Lightfoot, a one-term mayor and former federal prosecutor, defended her project as a response to what she called “federal overreach” under President Trump’s administration.
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi blasted Lightfoot’s actions during an interview on Fox News, saying, “She will be getting a letter from us tomorrow to preserve anything she has done, to make sure she’s not violating the law. It appears she is. You cannot disclose the identity of a federal agent — where they live, anything that could harm them.”
Bondi warned that such actions in so-called “sanctuary cities” have contributed to a surge in assaults on federal officers, citing an increase of more than 1,000 percent.
Bondi has not yet commented publicly on Rep. Croke’s actions.
