Rosie O’Donnell, the outspoken liberal entertainer who fled to Ireland, is facing major backlash after calling for an “economic blackout” in the United States — an effort widely seen as an attempt to damage the economy and hurt President Trump politically.

Posting on Instagram from her new home overseas, O’Donnell urged Americans to participate in what she called “the largest economic blackout protest in U.S. history.” The call quickly backfired, drawing thousands of angry comments from users pointing out that her stunt would primarily hurt working-class Americans, not the political figures she opposes.

PJ Media reported that social media users were quick to remind O’Donnell how disconnected her idea was from real life. One commenter fired back, “That’s so nice of you to pay my rent and car note since my check will be short a week.”

Another wrote, “What did restaurants do to you? Lots of mom-and-pop places will go under. Service staff survives on tips. Many of those workers live paycheck to paycheck.”

Others slammed her privilege, with one user noting, “This is great for people that are privileged enough to be able to do this. A lot of small businesses will suffer with a week of no sales, myself included. Maybe not even be able to pay rent or employees with that much revenue loss.”

A fed-up commenter summed it up: “Encouraging people to sabotage their livelihoods because you have a severe case of TDS. Talk about being out of touch with normal everyday people.”

Having relocated to Ireland and frequently bashing her home country online, O’Donnell has become a symbol of Hollywood’s detachment from working Americans. Her latest call for a boycott appears to have united people — not against President Trump, but against her.

Judging by the flood of criticism under her post, Americans have no interest in taking advice from someone who turned her back on the country she’s now trying to undermine.
