The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced today that 10 new construction contracts totaling approximately $4.5 billion were awarded in September 2025. These projects will expand the Smart Wall along the southwest border, adding hundreds of miles of advanced border security infrastructure.

“For years, Washington talked about border security but failed to deliver. This President changed that,” said CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott. “The Smart Wall means more barriers, more technology, and more capability for our agents on the ground. This is how you take control of the border.”

The Smart Wall system combines steel barriers, waterborne barriers, patrol roads, lighting, cameras, and advanced detection technology, providing Border Patrol agents with world-class tools to stop illegal traffic. The newly awarded contracts will add 230 miles of Smart Wall and nearly 400 miles of advanced system attributes, securing areas where previous administration policies had canceled construction.

These 10 contracts, awarded between September 15-30, are the first funded by President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) and include limited prior-year funding from Fiscal Year 2021 wall appropriations, which had been held up during the Biden administration.

To accelerate construction, DHS Secretary Noem also issued waivers for approximately nine miles of Smart Wall in the San Diego Sector and 30 miles in New Mexico’s El Paso Sector.
