Rock legend Gene Simmons is recovering at home after fainting behind the wheel and crashing his SUV on Malibu’s Pacific Coast Highway, according to authorities. The 76-year-old KISS co-founder told NBC News he’s doing fine following a brief hospital visit.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Simmons was driving his Lincoln Navigator when he apparently blacked out and struck a parked vehicle just before 1 p.m. Tuesday. His SUV crossed multiple lanes before coming to a stop after the collision.
Simmons’ wife, Shannon Tweed, told TMZ that a recent change in his medications may have been a factor, noting that he’s supposed to drink more water while on the new prescriptions but dislikes doing so. She added that dehydration could have played a role in the incident.
First responders said Simmons was alert and responsive at the scene and was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. No other injuries were reported, and no citations have been issued.
Despite the scare, KISS is still set to reunite for an “unmasked” 50th-anniversary concert series in Las Vegas from November 14 to 16, according to KTLA.
