NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The FBI’s Nashville Field Office reports to FOX 17 News that its federal agents have made 132 arrests since the Memphis Safe Task Force launched last week.

An update from the Nashville Field Office is expected Tuesday.

The operation brings together the FBI, the Tennessee National Guard, hundreds of Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers, and other law enforcement agencies in a sweeping crackdown on violent crime in what the FBI has identified as its most dangerous city in 2024.

So far, the task force has also confiscated 30 firearms and conducted 23 drug seizures.

Tennessee Republican leaders are praising the effort, while some local officials, including State Rep. Justin Pearson, criticize the operation, questioning why it has created what they describe as a “military state” atmosphere.

The Memphis Safe Task Force is currently in its first phase, which could extend for several months as authorities continue their heightened presence in the city.
