A University of Chicago professor has been arrested and charged with violent felonies following riots at an ICE facility in the city, according to law enforcement officials.
Eman Abdelhadi, an associate professor in the university’s Department of Comparative Human Development, was taken into custody Friday. She faces two counts of aggravated battery against a government employee, a Class 3 felony, and two counts of resisting or obstructing peace officers, a Class A misdemeanor, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office told Fox News. Abdelhadi is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday.
Rallies outside the ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois, have been ongoing for weeks, with demonstrators reportedly blocking vehicles and clashing with police. Abdelhadi shared images from Friday’s demonstration on her X account, including a photo of state troopers, whom she accused of “enforcing President Trump’s agenda of terrorizing our community with abductions.”
Abdelhadi has previously criticized her employer during a July appearance at a “Socialism 2025” conference, calling the university “evil” and describing it as a “colonial landlord.”
