A New York Police Department detective allegedly managed to sneak past Secret Service personnel at the Ryder Cup while claiming to be part of President Trump’s security detail.
Detective Melvin Eng reportedly arrived at the golf tournament in full tactical gear and told attendees he was working for federal authorities, according to The New York Post.
The Post reports that Eng, who was on sick leave at the time, is now facing administrative charges for theft of services. He might have gotten away with the stunt if he hadn’t dropped a gun magazine in front of actual security personnel, according to law enforcement sources and NYPD records.

A veteran NYPD officer commented on the incident: “You’re out sick, what are you doing at the Ryder Cup? You can’t do that. And it’s theft of service because you went in for free and then you lied and said you worked for Donald Trump.”
Eng, 46, who also serves as president of the NYPD Asian Jade Society, was removed from the Farmingdale tournament after the mishap with his weapon magazine.
