Tensions exploded in a federal courtroom Tuesday after 59-year-old Ryan Routh was convicted on all charges related to an attempt to assassinate President Donald Trump during his 2024 presidential campaign.
Immediately after the verdict was read, Routh appeared to try to stab himself in the neck with a pen multiple times. Four U.S. Marshals quickly intervened and restrained him.
His daughter, Sara Routh, stood up and began shouting in front of the jury.
“Don’t do anything. I will get you out,” she yelled. “What the f—. F—. He didn’t hurt anybody. This is not fair. This is all rigged — you guys are a–holes.”
She stormed out of the courtroom, unleashing profanity at the press and shouting, “Go away,” and “Get the f— out of my face.”
Routh, who represented himself during the trial, was convicted of five felony charges, including attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, and multiple firearms offenses. He now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
As Routh was being transported away from the courthouse in a black SUV, Sara ran after the vehicle, repeatedly yelling, “I love you.” She and her brother, Adam Routh, then walked to their car while she continued lashing out at reporters.
When one journalist asked if her father was okay, she responded, “He’d better be or everybody’s f—ing dead … You can all go to hell. It’s all y’all’s fault. F—ing lies. Spreading lies about my f—ing father.”
