French President Emmanuel Macron experienced a classic New York moment on Monday night when his limousine got stuck in heavy traffic near the United Nations headquarters—ironically due to a security lockdown for U.S. President Donald Trump’s motorcade.
According to USA Today, the NYPD temporarily shut down traffic to accommodate Trump’s arrival, leaving Macron and his convoy stranded. A video published by French media outlet Brut shows Macron politely asking a police officer if his vehicle could proceed, but the officer explains it’s not possible due to security protocols.
Taking the situation in stride, Macron pulled out his phone and called Trump directly. “Hey, how are you?” he says in accented English. “Guess what, I am waiting in the street because everything is frozen for you. Ha!”
Despite the friendly call, no exception was made. Macron and his entourage ultimately exited their vehicles and walked the rest of the way to the French embassy.
