Dear Advice,
I’m an avid hunter & really good at it. I’ve spent years honing my skills, tracking game, and bringing home trophies that would impress anyone. But here’s the thing: whenever I’m out hunting with men, it feels like they automatically assume I’m not as capable just because I’m a woman. They make comments like, “Are you sure you can handle that?” or “Want me to take over?” as if my gender somehow makes me less skilled. It’s frustrating because I work just as hard, if not harder, to prove myself.
On top of that, when I mention my love of hunting to other women, their reactions are pretty mixed. Some admire it, but others look at me like it’s strange or even a little scary. I guess I don’t fit the typical “female” mold for them, which makes me feel a bit isolated.
I’m proud of what I do, and I want to keep breaking those stereotypes. But sometimes, the mixed treatment makes me question how I should handle these situations. How can I assert my skills and passion confidently without alienating others? How do you navigate this kind of double standard?
