Dear, TNBD.
I’m not sure if this is the kind of situation you normally cover in your column—I’ve only recently started reading it—but I’m truly at the end of my rope and could use your guidance.
There’s a young man I care about deeply, a friend I’ve known for a while, who has gotten involved with someone I believe doesn’t have his best interests at heart. From what I’ve been told—and I have every reason to believe it’s true—she’s been using his money to perform voodoo in an attempt to keep control over him.
It’s heartbreaking to watch. This man has worked so hard to build a stable life for himself and his daughter. He’s the sole provider for his little girl and has always been someone who puts his family first. But ever since he got involved with this woman, he hasn’t been the same. He seems tired, emotionally drained, and honestly, just miserable in his own home.
I never used to believe in things like voodoo, but after seeing the change in him and hearing what’s going on, I’m starting to wonder. This woman seems to hold a strange kind of power over him—spiritually and financially—and she doesn’t seem to care about anything but keeping him under her control.
I’ve tried to talk to him, but all he says is, “I’m just going to let it play out.” But Bella, from everything I’ve read and heard, this kind of dark spiritual manipulation isn’t something you just “let play out.”
I can’t go into too much detail because this was told to me in confidence, but it truly breaks my heart to see someone I care about living in misery. I’ve suggested he turn to prayer and start going to church, but beyond that, I feel helpless.
Any advice you can offer would mean the world to me. I just want to help him find peace again.
