Nancy Jones, widow of country star, was with alleged conman for 12 years
Nancy Jones, widow of country music icon George Jones, is facing heartbreak once again—this time not from loss, but from alleged betrayal. Now 78, Nancy met Kirk West shortly after her husband’s 2013 death, during what she now describes as a vulnerable chapter in her life. In a recent Rolling Stone exposé by Cheyenne Roundtree, Nancy reveals she no longer believes that meeting was by chance.
West, born Kirk Leipzig, legally changed his name in 2015, claiming his birth name was too difficult to spell. He introduced himself to Nancy as a real estate investor and “spiritual mentor,” gradually becoming a trusted figure in both her personal and professional life. What began as a friendship turned romantic, and West eventually took on a prominent role in managing the George Jones estate and co-running the George Jones Museum in Nashville.
But behind the scenes, West’s history painted a far more troubling picture. According to court documents and interviews with former acquaintances, West has a pattern of deceiving women—allegedly using charm and false promises to gain their trust before involving them in shady financial schemes. He’s been linked to defaulted loans, unpaid child support, and accusations of running Ponzi schemes. Former partners and even a stepdaughter describe him as manipulative, emotionally abusive, and controlling.
After over a decade together, Nancy began to suspect infidelity. In July, her suspicions were confirmed in the most devastating way: $400,000 in cash and more than $11 million in cryptocurrency had vanished. West was arrested at Nashville International Airport wearing a flashy designer shirt, with a one-way ticket to the Philippines and a new woman by his side.
He has pleaded not guilty to felony theft charges. If convicted, he could face decades in prison.
