Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was hospitalized Saturday night following a serious car accident on a New Hampshire highway, according to his spokesperson.
The 81-year-old sustained several injuries, including fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple cuts and bruises, and damage to his left arm and lower leg, spokesperson Michael Ragusa said in a statement on X.
The incident reportedly occurred shortly after Giuliani stopped to assist a woman who had flagged him down, claiming to be the victim of a domestic violence incident. Giuliani called 911 and stayed with her until authorities arrived, according to CBS News. He then continued driving and was later rear-ended at high speed.
It’s unclear whether the two events were connected.
Despite the injuries, Ragusa said Giuliani remains in good spirits. “He’s a beast. He survived 9/11,” Ragusa told the New York Post, adding on X that Giuliani is “recovering tremendously.”
