A former U.S. Border Patrol agent has been sentenced to one year in federal prison for coercing women into exposing themselves during virtual immigration processing sessions. Shane Millan, 53, was sentenced Wednesday, according to Syracuse.com.

While stationed at Wellesley Island in upstate New York near the Canadian border in 2023, Millan was assigned to remotely process individuals crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. Prosecutors said he abused his position by using false pretenses to pressure female migrants into showing him their breasts via webcam.

In one instance, Millan reportedly told a woman — who was holding her infant at the time — that her immigration file noted a chest tattoo. When she denied having one, he instructed her to lift her shirt to prove it, according to court records.

Millan pleaded guilty in March to two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law.

“Everybody deserves respect, and we will not tolerate the sexual exploitation of immigrants by members of law enforcement. Nobody is above the law,” said acting U.S. Attorney John Sarcone, as reported by WWNY.

The Department of Justice condemned Millan’s conduct, emphasizing that such abuse of authority will be prosecuted.
