A 21-year-old American student is recovering from serious knife wounds after being attacked while confronting two men allegedly harassing female passengers on a tram in Dresden, Germany, over the weekend.
According to police, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday. The student intervened when two men were reportedly harassing two young women. He was then attacked with a knife by one of the suspects. The victim was hospitalized with severe injuries to his face and nose.

One of the suspects, identified in media reports as โMajid A,โ was arrested after fleeing the scene on an electric scooter. However, he was released approximately 12 hours later due to what authorities described as insufficient evidence. Reports also suggest that the suspect has a prior criminal record, including assault and robbery.
The American student later posted a video from the hospital, his face visibly bandaged, in which he criticized German immigration and crime policies. In the video, he claimed the suspect was known to police, was in Germany illegally, and had a history of violence, including against women.
โIf Germans are held to the law and that structure, but these people can just come in, swing knives, and hurt, abuse, terrorize, and oppress the citizens of Germany, then what do we do?โ he asked in the video.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell shared the video on social media, calling on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to address public frustration. โThe German people are sick and tired of this weak and woke response,โ Grenell said.
The incident has reignited debate in Germany over immigration policy and public safety. Official statistics from the German Federal Police and watchdog site Messeninzidenz.de report a concerning rate of violent incidents, including multiple knife attacks and gang rapes daily across the country.
