On Thursday night, former President Donald Trump made an unexpected appearance in Washington, DC, where he delivered pizza and burgers to law enforcement and National Guard personnel instead of accompanying them on patrol, as some had anticipated.

According to Fox 5 DC, Trump visited the Anacostia neighborhood, not far from the White House, where he thanked hundreds of officers and agents for their service in a brief speech. “We have great hamburgers cooked by the White House and we have pizza that I said, don’t do it in the White House—we went to that place that makes the best pizza,” Trump said.

He also praised recent efforts to reduce crime in the city, saying, “We’ve had some incredible results… it’s like a different place; it’s like a different city. It’s the capital. It’s going to be the best in the world.” Violent crime in DC is currently at a 30-year low.

Before returning to the White House, Trump had a slice of pizza and spoke about plans to beautify the city. As reported by NBC Washington, he pledged to remove graffiti and restore grass in public parks. “We have a life, and grass has a life—and the grass here died about 40 years ago,” he remarked. “At the end of a year, this place will be maxed out in terms of beauty.”
