A tragic incident unfolded in Burlington, Colorado, where the 3-year-old daughter of the city’s police chief was fatally attacked by a law enforcement K-9, authorities have confirmed.
The child, whose name has not been released, was found unresponsive in the yard of her family’s home and later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the Kit Carson County Sheriff’s Office.
The dog involved in the attack, a German shepherd named Draco, had previously served as a narcotics detection K-9 for the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office. Although trained solely for drug detection and not for patrol or apprehension work, the dog reportedly attacked the child while off duty and living in a private home.
