Newly released surveillance video shows a bystander stepping in to stop a man who forced his way through a TSA checkpoint at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
The bystander, identified as Mark Thomas, tackled Fabian Leon after Leon pushed past security late last year.
“I saw him knock over the first guy, and then a TSA agent tried to grab him. Once he was about to get past me, I figured I’d step in if I could,” Thomas told Fox 5.
Leon was later charged with simple battery and attempting to bypass security procedures.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, the newly obtained surveillance footage shows how quickly the situation unfolded and how close Leon came to getting through the main security checkpoint before being stopped.
The video, acquired through a public records request, shows Leon, 40, moving through the airport before attempting to enter the TSA checkpoint around 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 30.
Police say Leon first tried to enter through one screening lane but was stopped. He then moved toward another lane where Thomas was standing. Thomas said he heard a TSA officer shout “breach,” prompting him to turn and act immediately.
