MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE: Basketball player Ja Morant appeared to be flashing a gun in yet another video, which has caused quite a stir among those involved in the sport. The Memphis Grizzlies player had already previously displayed a firearm while doing an Instagram Live at a strip club in March and subsequently received an eight-game suspension. This time it is likely that he will see a harsher penalty after a new clip from the weekend showed Morant holding a gun in a car during a friend’s Instagram Live video.

Morant has already been suspended by the Grizzlies from all team activities for an unspecified period of time.

Current and ex-players have reacted to the video

Former longtime NBA center and ESPN pundit Kendrick Perkins tweeted, “Ja Morant ain’t go stop until he’s OUT the league. SMH.” A baffled JR Smith tweeted, “I don’t get it. I just don’t get it,” while Utah Jazz swingman Juan Toscano-Anderson wrote, “Ja friends really the police. Why they always recording?” In a follow-up tweet he added, “If ppl got they phone out recording my privacy and private time-that’s a way to never be invited around me again.”

Former NBA standout Chandler Parsons commented on an Instagram post, telling that the league should “suspend [Morant] all of next season,” which would be Morant’s fifth in the league. UFC middleweight contender Derek Brunson commented on the same post, “If ‘can’t get right’ was a person.”  Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant also tweeted. “Ja morant .. why dawg? f–k all of that dumb s–t,” he wrote.

Ex-NBA star Gilbert Arenas pled for Morant

Gilbert Arenas, who was infamously handed a suspension for a gun incident back in 2010, posted a video less than a day following the Morant incident. He urged the young player to remain out of trouble. “The most important summer of this man’s career is this summer,” Arenas said on his show ‘Gil’s Arena’, according to New York Post. “He better lock himself in the gym, in the house,” he added.

Morant, who will turn 24 in August, was eliminated from the playoffs in the first round along with his team after getting defeated to finals-bound Lakers in six games.
