A man was charged for allegedly shooting a turkey from a car window, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game Officials, WMUR Manchester reported.

The officials were alerted when a citizen gave a tip about the shooting, which occurred in Cheshire County in New Hampshire, according to WMUR Manchester. Officials stated that the Massachusetts Environmental Police assisted their efforts, according to the source.

A turkey license is required to hunt in New Hampshire along with a current hunting, archery or combination license, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s website.

New Hampshire has experienced a rise in wild turkeys in the last several decades. Habitat loss and market and subsistence hunting allegedly led to the disappearance of the birds by 1854, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s website

However, efforts to restore the population of turkeys started in 1975, leading Fish and Game officials to release 25 turkeys. This small population has grown into more than 40,000 in the state today, according to the website.
