Gabby Petito’s family won $3 million after filing a lawsuit against Brian Laundrie’s parents for the murder of their daughter, according to NBC News.

The awarded amount was granted after Petito’s parents, Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Laundrie’s parents for the death of their influencer daughter, which occurred in Aug. 2021, according to NBC News.

The 22-year-old was on a cross country trip with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, when she went missing. Her body was later discovered in Wyoming. Petito was allegedly strangled to death, and Laundrie quickly emerged as the primary suspect. He committed suicide in Florida in Oct. 2021 after her death, leaving a note confessing to the murder, according to NBC News.

The settlement was announced Thursday, several months after Petito’s parents filed a civil suit in Sarasota County against Laundrie’s parents, Christopher and Roberta, according to NBC News.

The lawsuit alleged that the Laundries hid their knowledge of where Petito was while she was missing and that they knew about the murder, Fox News reported.
