Woman Cops To Meat Beating At Ohio Walmart
Victim was struck in face with 10-pound tube of ground beef
NOVEMBER 9–An Ohio woman yesterday copped to clobbering a female acquaintance in the face with a 10-pound log of ground beef during a confrontation in the potato chip aisle of a Walmart in suburban Cleveland.
In a deal with prosecutors, Maneka Garner, 27, pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct in connection with her attack last year on a former neighbor. Garner was originally charged with assault.
During a Municipal Court hearing Tuesday, Garner received a 30-day suspended jail sentence and was placed on probation for a year. She was also ordered to pay $155 in fines and court fees.
According to police, Garner was at a Walmart in South Euclid when she encountered victim Precious Jackson, 37, who was shopping with her seven-year-old daughter. Garner was accompanied by her five-year-old son.
Jackson, who had lived downstairs from Garner in a University Heights duplex, had previously secured a protection order against her ex-neighbor.
Cops say that when Garner (seen at right) confronted Jackson in the Walmart potato chip aisle, she threatened to beat up Jackson and her daughter. Garner then allegedly pulled down Jackson’s face mask and attempted to spit on her.
When the spit missed the target, Garner reached into Jackson’s cart and removed the $22 meat log. Cops described the tube of ground beef as a “blunt object” in an arrest report (a Walmart meat log is seen in the above police photo).
Garner, investigators charged, struck Jackson “a couple of times in the face with a ten pound log of prepackaged ground beef.” Garner was arrested at the scene and a relative subsequently took custody of her son.
Jackson was not injured by the meat blows.
