Jeopardy slammed for displaying killer Brian Laundrie’s name as clue

Jeopardy slammed for displaying killer Brian Laundrie’s name as clue

By Harshwardhan Waghela

Fans of ‘Celebrity Jeopardy!’ are criticizing the show for using a lurid clue in the episode that aired on Sunday night, November 13, featuring Gabby Petito‘s killer Brian Laundrie. He was the main suspect in Gabby Petito’s killing and even admitted to the crime in his notebook before killing himself with a gunshot to the head.

The following was one of the answers in a category centered on the letter “A”: “In 2021, fugitive Brian Laundrie ended his days in Florida’s Myakkahatchee Creek area, home to these long & toothy animals.” The right response to the question was “What are alligators” but nobody seemed to care after Laundrie’s name was mentioned in one of the options. Fans on Twitter were outraged by the show’s audacity to display a killer’s name on air as one user wrote, “Celebrity Jeopardy has lost it with this Brian Laundrie question.” Another one added, “Not celebrity@jeopardy using Brian Laundrie as a clue for alligators.. that’s so distasteful and wrong could’ve used anything else for a clue.”

One person stated: “I can’t believe you referenced Brian Laundrie in a question to get an answer of alligators. Who wasn’t thinking?” Another user went on to make a poll of the situation by asking, “Who else thinks @CelebJeopardy @jeopardy #CelebrityJeopardy #Jeopardy needs make a public apology for their shocking clue last night using killer Brian Laundrie’s name to lead to alligator answer?!”

In a notepad, Laundrie admitted to killing his 22-year-old fiancée, Gabby Petito, before taking his own life a little over a year ago. The two had been driving a van across the nation together. In 2021, when Petito’s mother reported her missing and Laundrie was named as the main suspect in his fiancé’s disappearance and death, the case sparked the curiosity of millions around the country. In a campground close to the Grand Teton mountains, Petito was discovered dead in September 2021 after having been strangled.

Laundrie’s skeleton remains were found in October of last year in the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, close to his parents’ Florida residence. It was discovered that he had shot himself in the head and died as a result. Nichole Schmidt, the grieving mother of Petito, stated last year that even Laundrie’s alleged admission of his motive for killing her daughter was an “absolute” lie as per Daily Mail. Laundrie noted in his journal that he had mercifully executed Petito after witnessing her suffer a terrible injury to herself. Recently, Petito’s parents sued the police for $50 million, alleging that a traffic officer in Utah neglected to arrest Laundrie because the officer is himself a domestic abuser.
