‘I’ve never seen anything like it,’ Ohio truck driver films fist fight on I-270 in Gahanna
While driving along the interstate, drivers may expect to encounter an accident or two, but a full-on highway brawl isn’t something you see every day.
That’s what truck driver Jon Castiaux drove right up to while traveling back to Springfield from Columbus on June 4.
“It was pretty crazy to see,” Castiaux said. “I’ve been doing this going on nine years and this is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone get out and start hitting somebody.”
Castiaux was traveling on I-270 in Gahanna near the Hamilton Road exit when he said he drove up to a line of traffic.
“I thought it was an accident at first. I saw a whole bunch of people running across the highway. But then there were just punches and kicks being thrown,” Castiaux said.
The video showed two men in a scuffle in the middle of the highway. Several punches were thrown and then the video showed the men running off the highway toward a car parked in the median.
Castiaux said he was on the phone with his friends as he drove up to the fight and immediately hung up so he could start to record.
“I told them they weren’t going to believe what I was seeing, so I hung up the phone and started recording. Right before I started rolling down the highway again, I posted the video to Facebook,” he said.
In his post, Castiaux captioned the video “Only in Columbus.”
“Once you think you see it all you just see more and it just never ceases to amaze you,” he said
“Originally, I just posted it to show a couple of my friends, but then it just blew up. By the time I got home, it had 1,500 views and I thought that was pretty great,” he said. “The next morning it had 30,000 views and a few hours after that I checked again and it was up to 60,000.”
After five days, the video had over 550,000 views.
“Since the video went viral, I’ve gotten a lot of random friend requests on Facebook,” Castiaux said with a laugh. “I don’t know why people want to follow me, I’m just a boring truck driver.”
ABC6/FOX28 obtained an incident report from the Gahanna Police Department.
According to the report, officers had arrived to the scene after the fight had broken up but one participant was still on the scene.

Gahanna police identified that man as Abdulfatah Musse. Officers said they wrote him a citation for pedestrian prohibited on the freeway. No one was arrested.
Due to what officers said was an apparent state of intoxication, officers transported Musse to the home on his driver’s license.
