13-year-old fatally shot by police after ramming patrol car with stolen vehicle in attempt to flee: SAPD

A San Antonio police officer shot and wounded a 13-year-old boy who T-boned a patrol car while trying to flee in a stolen vehicle early Friday morning, June 3, on the city’s Southwest Side, according to authorities. The teen was later pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital for his injuries.

The incident occurred just before 1:30 a.m. in the 4900 block of War Horse Drive, near Old Pearsall Road and Loop 410. Officers responded to the scene after receiving a call about shots fired.

When officials arrived, they found a stolen red vehicle with three people in it, according to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus. When the driver of the stolen vehicle realized police were on the scene, the suspect then reversed the vehicle and T-boned the police car behind it, McManus said.

Another officer on the scene shot the suspect driving the stolen vehicle after he rammed into the police car, McManus said. The suspect was transported to University Hospital and underwent surgery, where he later died from his injuries.

No other injuries were reported, according to McManus.

McManus said he couldn’t give more information as he needs to look at the body camera footage for more details. The police chief did not identify the officer. The other occupants in the vehicle are juveniles as well. The officer will be placed on administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation, police said.
