Biden Says Don’t Worry About Taiwan Based On Assurances China Already Violated

If you liked what Biden did in Afghanistan, you’ll love what he does in Taiwan.

President Biden said on Tuesday that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping have agreed to abide by the status quo in light of recent military provocations carried out by China against the self-governing island.

“I’ve spoken with Xi about Taiwan. We agree we will abide by the Taiwan agreement. That’s where we are and I made it clear that I don’t think he should be doing anything other than abiding by the agreement,” Biden told reporters.

Never mind the word salad.

Biden isn’t even referring to a current conversation with Xi.

Biden told reporters after returning from a trip to Michigan that he and the Chinese president spoke and agreed to stick to the existing consensus on managing disputes over the island. While Biden didn’t immediately specify whether he was referring to his widely publicized call with Xi last month, the White House later clarified that the conversation wasn’t new.

So Biden was reassuring reporters based on a conversation from last month which China has clearly violated.

What agreement is Biden talking about? Presumably the Three Communiques. A big part of how Nixon and Kissinger helped empower the PRC.

“We made it clear that I don’t think he should be doing anything other than abiding by the agreement,” Biden said.

China clearly disagrees and considering the content of the Three Communiques which can be interpreted any way that the U.S. or China likes, and that the Chinese position in the third of them was that it owned Taiwan and had every right to “liberate” it, Biden couldn’t possibly be offering up a more worthless reassurance if he just spent three minutes barking at the camera while quoting random John Wayne movies.
