The man who dropped a one-month-old baby out of a second story balcony in Jersey City has been charged with attempted murder, officials said.

The man, who has not been identified, was arrested Saturday night after a tense stand-off with police on Rose Avenue, officials said. He was charged on Sunday with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of a child

Officer Eduardo Matute caught the child after the baby was dropped from a second floor balcony on Rove Avenue, the spokeswoman, Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, told NJ Advance Media Sunday morning.

Police responded to the home after receiving a call that someone was “dangling a baby over a balcony,” officials said previously. Officers attempted to negotiate with the man, but he instead dropped the child, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said Saturday.

Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop shared a photo showing Matute, the officer who caught the baby, cradling the infant, who was wrapped in a white blanket, at a nearby hospital.

Not sure how tossing kids off balconies helps anything but this shit’s gettin old real quick. Nice catch Officer!
