ISP: Wife drunkenly crashes into husband’s car while picking him up from his own drunk crash
POSEYVILLE, Ind. —
A southern Indiana couple is facing charges after investigators said they were involved in separate crashes at the same location while driving under the influence.
According to the Indiana State Police, the first crash was reported just before 8:30 p.m. Monday on SR 165, about a 1/2 mile north of Interstate 64 in Posey County.
Donald Ricketts, 56, of Poseyville, was driving a 2019 Nissan Frontier north on SR 165 when he drive left of center and struck the driver’s side of a tractor-trailer that was headed south on SR 165.
State police said after the crash — which occurred not far from his home — Ricketts phoned his wife to pick him up. His wife, Cheral Ricketts, then made her way south on SR 165 in her 2014 Nissan, where she then crashed into her husband’s that was still in the middle of the road following the previous crash.
Both their cars were totaled, according to state police.
State police then arrived to the scene and found signs of impairment coming from Donald and Cheral Ricketts, both of whom failed field sobriety tests.
Cheral Ricketts, 55, was taken to a hospital, where a preliminary test found that she had a blood alcohol content level of .22%, state police said. She was taken to the Posey County Jail, where she is being held on bond.
Donald Ricketts was also taken to a hospital, where they found he had a blood alcohol content level of .28%. He was admitted to the hospital for a minor medical issue.
Investigators said the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
State police said the investigation into the crashes is ongoing.
