El Paso, Texas (KTSM) — A dentist in El Paso, Texas warns people about trying a dangerous new viral trend: Mr. Clean your teeth with CleanMagic Eraser.

This trend has caught the attention of social media platform TikTok, which has received over 255,000 likes since the original video was posted in June.

Magic Eraser is a line of Mr. Clean branded cleaning pads made of chemicals that should not be consumed or used on any part of the body.

Dr. Richard Black, Dean of the Hunt Dental School, said attempting these dangerous trends could damage teeth for life.

“It’s one of the worst things you can do with your teeth because the bleach is too strong,” Black said. “It may work once, but if you continue to do so, you will eradicate the enamel that surrounds your teeth.”

Plano’s orthodontist responded to the video saying that the cleaning pad is made of melamine foam. Melamine foam acts like “really abrasive sandpaper” and essentially scrapes off the enamel.

“She’s afraid of fluoride, but is it cool to use a magic eraser on her teeth?” He asked.

The company’s packaging warns users, “Do not use on skin or other parts of the body.”

The parent company, Procter & Gamble, did not immediately respond to the request for comment.
