Spartanburg, SC – Three men were arrested in possession of firearms and marijuana after they shot fireworks at Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputies patrol cars on Sunday night.

The Spartan County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred at about 11:35 p.m. on July 4 after deputies responded to a call about a “large disruptive crowd” that was shooting off fireworks at an apartment complex, WSPA reported.

Deputies arrived on the scene at Campus Evolution Apartments off Valley Falls Road and attempted to disperse the crowd.

The sheriff’s department said that was when at least three men in the crowd began shooting fireworks at the deputies and their patrol vehicles, WSPA reported.

Deputies identified three of the suspects who had attacked them.

One of the sheriff’s sergeants on the scene spotted a semiautomatic rifle inside the vehicle within arms’ reach of one of the suspects, WSPA reported.

Deputies conducted a high-risk traffic stop and pulled the three men from the vehicle.

The sheriff’s department said that deputies found one of the other suspects had a pistol concealed in his waistband, WSPA reported.

Deputies said the third suspect was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana, WHNS reported.

Upon searching the vehicle, deputies found two 9mm magazines and seven rounds of ammunition for the pistol.

They also found a 40-round magazine for the rifle and 39 rounds of ammunition for it, WHNS reported.

Deputies arrested all three suspects at the scene.

The sheriff’s department said 23-year-old Dakwon Tyrell Hill was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, WHNS reported.

Deputies charged 21-year-old Devardric Spencer Graham unlawful possession of a pistol and 20-year-old Cedkevious Marquses Childs with simple possession of marijuana.

The sheriff’s department said all three suspects were bonded out of jail on Monday morning, according to WHNS.

Deputies on the scene received accolades for their handling of the incident, WSPA reported.

“With the professional way our deputies handled the situation, no one got hurt or injured, and their actions prevented the incident from becoming much worse, especially with those 2 weapons and that much ammunition,” Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Kevin Bobo said.
