WATCH: Woman pumping gas severely beaten in ‘random,’ caught-on-video attack
A California woman was severely beaten in a “completely random and unprovoked” attack as she pumped gas, according to police and video of the incident.
The victim was filling up her car around 7 p.m. in Gardena, about 14 miles south of Los Angeles, on May 30 when a large, shirtless man pulled up in front of her car, got out and “calmly” walked over to her, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said.
Video of the incident shows the man coming up behind the woman and suddenly punching her square in the face, knocking her to the ground.
The suspect continued to punch the woman in the head and face and also grabbed her hair and repeatedly slammed her head against the car and concrete, cops said.
As the man hovered over the victim, a group of people approached and one appeared to lead the suspect back to his car where he “calmly” got in and drove off, according to cops and video.
The suspect didn’t steal anything from the victim and cops said the attack “appears to be completely random and unprovoked.”
“The victim sustained severe injuries to her head and face due to the attack and was subsequently transported to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries,” police said.
She’s since been released and is recovering at home, they added.
The suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 30 and 35 years-old who is over 6 feet tall and about 300-350 pounds.
On Friday night, the LASD told FOX 11 a person they believe to be the suspect was detained in Long Beach but further information wasn’t provided.
