The Twitter feed for Oreo cookies seemed to weigh in on the day’s events with a simple statement Thursday: “Trans people exist.”

The Nabisco cookie brand sent out those three words following a busy day of debate over gender identity rights.
That included a contentious day of testimony over President Biden’s transgender Health and Human Services deputy secretary nominee Rachel Levine, where conservative Kentucky senator Rand Paul drilled Levine on topics including hormone treatment for trans teens.
Levine would become the highest-ranking openly trans official in U.S. history if approved by the senate.
The Oreo tweet also came on the same day the House of Representatives passed the Equality Act. It amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include protection of sexual orientation and identity.
A lot of Twitter users accused Oreo of trying to appeal to hip, young people with its tweet. The snack food brand offered no follow-up to its 16 letter statement and didn’t immediately return a Daily News request for comment.
Oreo describes its product as “the world’s most twistable, lick-able, and dunk-able cookie.”
Nabisco wasn’t the only company dabbling in politics Thursday. Toymaker Hasbro announced it’s nearly 70-year-old Mr. Potato Head brand would be known simply as “Potato Head” going forward. The company later clarified its position by tweeting that Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head toys would still exist, but that the brand name was evolving into one that’s gender-neutral.
