Social-media post making light of George Floyd’s death is under investigation

A disturbing social-media post in which an alleged Nevada female student makes a cruelly disparaging remark regarding George Floyd has prompted a probe.

The post shows a girl holding up a homemade poster that reads, “If you went to SADIES (with me) it would take my BREATH away!”

Below the text is a crude drawing of a man with the words “George Floyd” next to it.

Now, Clark County School District is investigating the disrespectful dance invitation, reported the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Foothill High School in Henderson, Nev., and the school district released a joint statement acknowledging the matter.

“Foothill and CCSD will not tolerate racially insensitive behaviors that contradict an inclusive community and impact the school culture of our students,” read the email. “As you are aware, Foothill High School and CCSD can not comment on individual student matters or discipline, we assure you the issue is being addressed.”

Although it remains unclear as to when the photo was taken, it does appear to show the student standing on a sports field.

An email from Foothill Principal Lisa Burkhead told school members on Monday noted that she was planning “several virtual student town-hall forums to listen to students impacted by recent events.”

The high school, located about 15 miles south of Las Vegas, has held no dances this school year amid social-distance learning, according to the Review-Journal.

Floyd died May 25, 2020, in police custody after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on the back of Floyd’s neck for approximately nine minutes despite agonizing pleas from him that he couldn’t breathe.
