WATCH: Seattle Police Shoot Gunman Who Killed Random Woman And Wounded Her Friend
Seattle, WA – Seattle police have released video footage that captured the moment when a gunman shot two women in a random attack outside the Northwest African American Museum on Feb. 9 (video below).
One of the victims died of her wounds while being transported to the hospital, KOMO reported.
The Seattle Police Department (SPD) also released bodycam footage showing the shootout between officers and the gunman, 45-year-old Gregory Taylor.
The attack occurred just after 9 p.m. on Feb. 9, as 23-year-old Anais Valencia and her 22-year-old unnamed friend were sitting in a blue Toyota Prius in the museum parking lot in the 2300-block of South Massachusetts Street, The Seattle Times reported.
Surveillance footage showed Taylor as he walked across the parking lot.
A moment later, he changed course and headed over to the women’s’ vehicle, where he appeared to speak with someone sitting in the driver’s seat, the video showed.
TSPD received multiple reports of gunfire at approximately 9:16 p.m., the agency said in the video release.
“I can see him shooting,” one caller said. “He has the gun in his hand.”
Police responded to the area of South Massachusetts Street and 14th Avenue, where they heard multiple gunshots while forming a contact team.
The 22-year-old shooting victim inside the Toyota called 911 a moment later to report that she and her friend had both been shot multiple times, audio records showed.
“I don’t know where we are. We just got shot like three times,” the woman said. “My friend is dying. She got shot in the face. Please come!”
Surveillance footage showed Taylor banging on the hood of the car and waving the gun around in the air before he casually walked away.
A bodycam clip showed officers as they spotted the gunman heading towards them.
“Put your hands up and drop the gun!” they repeatedly ordered, just before Taylor raised the gun in their direction, the video showed.
The SPD later confirmed officers “exchanged gunfire” with the suspect, who died of his wounds at the scene.
No officers were injured in the shootout, KOMO reported.
Additional officers began searching the area for the two wounded women.
Valencia died while en route to the hospital, KOMO reported.
Her 22-year-old friend was rushed to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center for treatment of her gunshot wounds, The Seattle Times reported.
She was released from the hospital sometime the following day.
Investigators said there was no connection between Taylor and the women he shot, The Seattle Times reported.

The SPD Force Investigation Unit his handling the ongoing investigation into the incident with oversight from the Office of the Inspector General and the Office of Professional Accountability, SPD Assistant Chief Deanna Nollette told the Federal Way Mirror.
The Seattle Times reported Taylor lived at the Urban League Village apartment complex located next to the museum, according to Susan Pickering, chief operating officer of the company that manages the building.
Pickering said Taylor had cleaned the grounds and facility for about five hours per week since 2018, The Seattle Times reported.
“We are heartbroken about this tragedy, and our thoughts and concerns are with the individuals involved and their families,” she told The Seattle Times.
Valencia’s mother, Elaina Hogue Green, said her daughter was a college student who wanted to become a veterinarian, the Federal Way Mirror reported.
“Anais was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter and niece,” Green said. “She lived life to the fullest and always had a big smile on her face.”
