George Washington’s Famous Eggnog Recipe

Every good host has one cocktail they’ve perfected to offer their guests.

Apparently, George Washington was known for his Christmas Eggnog recipe.

Most eggnog recipes call for whiskey. Or rum. Or brandy. President Washington, it seems, knew how to party.  He included them all, plus sherry – that special ingredient that left you wondering, “what was that?” 

You can only imagine how frequently this would be shared if Pinterest was a ‘thing’ back then.  And yes, it says “taste frequently.”

George Washington’s Famous Eggnog Recipe, according to The Farmers Almanac:

• one quart cream
• one quart milk
• one dozen tablespoons sugar
• one pint brandy
• ½ pint rye whiskey
• ½ pint Jamaica rum
• ¼ pint sherry

Mix liquor first, then separate yolks and whites of 12 eggs.
Add sugar to beaten yolks.
Mix well.

Add milk and cream, slowly beating.
Beat whites of eggs until stiff and fold slowly into mixture.
Let set in cool place for several days.
Taste frequently.”
