Southfield woman charged in murder of pregnant U of M-Dearborn student-athlete

Kabria Arnold, 20, found fatally shot Nov. 10 in Detroit

DETROIT – A 24-year-old Southfield woman is charged in connection with the murder of Kabria Arnold.

Arnold, of Detroit, was found dead about 11:40 p.m. by Detroit police officers at Pilgrim and Bentler streets. She was found lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arnold had finished her shift at Meijer. She was a young student-athlete who was studying at University of Michigan-Dearborn and playing on the softball team. She was also pregnant.

Gabrielle Marie Brantley, 24, of Southfield, is accused of shooting Arnold. Brantley was arrested Nov. 18 and is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, assault on a pregnant woman (intentionally causing a miscarriage) and two counts of felony firearm. She is schedule to be arraigned on the charges Thursday afternoon.

Police said earlier this week that a 28-year-old man also was taken into custody in connection with this murder. However, no other charges have been announced.
