Tucson, AZ – An Arizona woman fatally shot two men who she said attempted to break into her home early Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred in the 4700-block of East Duncan Street at approximately 3:45 a.m., KVOA reported.

The unnamed female homeowner said that she was awoken when she heard a noise at the back door of her home, so she grabbed a handgun and went to check it out.

She claimed that when she reached the door, she realized two men were trying to force their way inside, KVOA reported.

During the confrontation that ensued, the homeowner opened fire, fatally wounding both suspects.

She then alerted her neighbor and called 911 to report what had occurred.

Officers arrived to find both men in the backyard area suffering from gunshot wounds, KVOA reported.

One of the suspects was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to KVVU.

The second suspect died at the scene.

The men were later identified as 18-year-old Ali Mohamed and 18-year-old Corey Teixeira, KVOA reported.

The homeowner was not injured during the altercation.

Investigators said that Mohamed and Teixeira specifically targeted the woman’s home.

Tucson Police Department (TPD) Public Information Officer Frank Magos tweeted that the incident appeared to be “drug-related.”

Arizona is one of more than 24 states with “stand your ground” legislation, which gives citizens the right to defend themselves by using deadly force, KVVU reported.

Police are working to determine whether or not the woman shot the suspects in self-defense.

Investigative findings will be forwarded to the Pima County Attorney’s Office, at which point prosecutors will determine if the homeowner will face any charges.
