Oct. 1, 2019: Johnny Carson

On October 1, 1962, Johnny Carson hosted his first of many episodes of THE TONIGHT SHOW from New York, and later Los Angeles. Carson was the king of late night TV, and was the bellwether for actors, entertainers, comedians and more. If you made it to Johnny’s show, and he liked you, your career would immediately be set to take off.

Johnny Carson retired in 1992, and replaced by Jay Leno, although Johnny’s first choice was David Letterman. The network went with Leno, which upset quite a few people, but which might have been the better choice ultimately.

What is your favorite Carson moment that you can recall, or what was your favorite quality of Carson that you liked the most?
