An alcohol-ridden brawl involving dozens at a California water park Sunday was sparked after two families got into a confrontation over a beach towel, police said.

The brawl left one man in critical condition and closed business operations for the rest of the day, police said.

Police responded to Raging Waters, a water park located in Sacramento, Calif., around 3:28 p.m. Sunday. Christopher Neves, 35, of Modesto, was found unconscious and without a heartbeat, officials said.

Paramedics performed CPR on Neves and regained his heartbeat. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was listed in a coma, according to Fox8.

Everest Robillard, chief of the Cal Expo Police Department, said officers broke up a fight between about 40 people. Two families, each with about 15 to 20 people, began arguing when an individual from one family allegedly took a beach towel belonging to a member of the other family.

“It started over a beach towel and then escalated into verbal insults and profanity — one family getting angry because of profanities being said in front of children,” Robillard told the newspaper. “The next thing we know of, it became physical.”

Robillard said alcohol was involved. One witness described how someone cracked a chair over the head of another person during the fight, the Sacramento Bee reported. It was unclear how Neves was injured and if anyone was charged in the incident.
