Deputies arrested Sarah Perry for felony animal abuse after she was caught on video putting her dog in the trunk.

Brevard County, FL – Deputies have arrested a woman who was caught on video stuffing her dog in the trunk of her car after the local animal shelter refused to euthanize it for her (video below).

Deputies said 27-year-old Sarah Perry said she tried to turn her family pet in to an animal shelter because she couldn’t care for it anymore, WBMA reported.

But the shelter said it was completely full and had no room for the dog.

Perry asked them to put her dog to sleep instead and the shelter informed her they do not euthanize animals for the public, according to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey in a video posted to the sheriff department’s official Facebook page.

The woman became very angry and went back out to her car, where she proceeded to stuff the dog into the trunk.

She closed the trunk and drove off, but not before a good Samaritan saw what was happening.

Sheriff Ivey said a bystander captured cell phone video of the unbelievable scene, and then called police with a description of the woman, her vehicle, and the license plate number.

Brevard County sheriff’s deputies immediately responded to the scene, he said.

The sheriff said deputies were able to identify the suspect, and locate and rescue the dog.

He said the dog was visibly emaciated and appeared to have been neglected.

Deputies transported the pooch to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Animal Care Center where a veterinarian said the dog was terribly dehydrated and malnourished and generally in poor health, according to the sheriff.

Sheriff Ivey said deputies arrested Perry on Thursday afternoon.

She is charged with felony animal abuse and the sheriff said his department would work closely with the state’s attorney to make sure Perry got the maximum punishment possible.

Sheriff Ivey proudly bragged in his video that when Perry arrived at the sheriff’s department, he personally escorted the handcuffed animal-abuser into lockup.

“The abuse of this innocent pet makes absolutely no sense and can only be attributed to someone who has zero compassion for animals and quite frankly shouldn’t be allowed to even own a plant, much less a pet,” the sheriff said. “As I’ve said many times before, anyone who can do something like this to an innocent pet could just as easily do it to a human. So I have zero remorse about locking her up or sympathy for any excuse she may have for her actions.”

“Just in case you did not get the previous bulletins I’ve put out about animal cruelty, let me be clear,” Sheriff Ivey warned. “If you harm an animal in Brevard County, we’re gonna put your butt straight in jail and do everything legally possible to make your life just as miserable as you made that pet’s life.”

“If in your sick little mind, you’re thinking about harming an animal, or a human for that matter, I would highly recommend that you don’t do it,” he said. “But if for some reason you can’t control yourself, you better do it somewhere other than Brevard County because in this county we take animal abuse very serious, and personal for that matter.”
